Employee Sanction Screenings
Overview
The
UCMC checks prospective
employees against several sanction databases. The purpose of the
sanction screening is to determine whether any such employee or
applicant
has been convicted of a crinimal offense related to health care or is
listed by a federal agency as debarred, excluded or otherwise
ineligible for federal program participation.
The OMCC
will not condone the hiring or retaining of an employee or
applicant that has been convicted of a crime related to health care or
who
has been excluded from participation in a federal program.
Technical Overview
All new employees or applicants are screened against four
sanction
databases to ensure that they qualify for employment:
- Office of the Inspector General's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities
- General Services Administration's Excluded Parties List System
- State of Illinois Office of Inspector General's Database
- U.S. Treasury's Specially
Designated Nationals List
The first database -- the
Office of the Inspector General's ("OIG")
database (List of Excluded Inividuals/Entities or LEIE) -- includes
over 32,000 excluded individuals for health care compliance
infractions. The second database -- the General Services
Administration's ("GSA") database (Excluded Parties List System or
EPLS) -- includes an additional 7,000 individuals excluded for
non-health care violations. The OMCC honors both health care related
and non-health care related exclusions.
The OIG database is updated once a month. The GSA database is updated
once a week. For more information, please contact the OMCC.
